Cameron Diaz isn’t telling us what she’s working on

Cameron Diaz is keeping secrets. The actress who has been out of the limelight for years talked to InStyle magzine for its September issue and said she feels deserving of a little privacy given that she “started [experiencing fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago.””The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public,” Diaz said. “I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to.”There’s been a continuing fascination with Diaz’s life since she’s mostly disappeared from the Hollywood scene years ago.

She last appeared in the 2014 remake of “Annie” and last year she declared herself “retired” from acting.

Now she says she doesn’t miss performing.”Right now I’m looking at the landscape of wellness and all that,” Diaz told InStyle. “But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about — something that just feels effortless.”Diaz, who has been married to musician Benji Madden since 2015, said, “It’s fun to just not have anybody know what I’m up to. Because my time is all mine.””I’m not selling any films, and because I’m not selling anything, I don’t have to give anybody anything,” she said. “I’m not doing this anymore. I’m living my life.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Got Wedding Advice from ‘Very Excited’ Cameron Diaz, Says Source

When Gwyneth Paltrow wanted advice for her wedding day, she knew just the person to call.

A source tells PEOPLE that Paltrow, 46, sought out tips from Cameron Diaz, also 46, before tying the knot with Brad Falchuk, 47, in the Hamptons on Saturday.

“Cameron was very excited about Gwyneth’s wedding,” the source says. “Gwyneth has been giving her updates and asking for advice during the planning.”

As for Diaz’s expertise, the insider says, “Cameron pulled off a private wedding even though the media found out about it before. Gwyneth wanted the same privacy.”

Diaz and Benji Madden, 39, wed in January 2015 at their home in Beverly Hills, California.

Diaz and Madden were two of the several celebrity pals — including Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg and Robert Downey Jr. — to celebrate the actress and the Glee co-creator at their wedding.

In April, Diaz, Nicole Richie, Rachel Zoe and others attended Paltrow’s bridal party. Paltrow captioned a picture of the group, “When some of the women you love most in the world give you a luncheon and you end up with underwear on your head…”

Paltrow and Diaz have had a tight bond for years. In 2012, the stars rapped about Chelsea Handler in honor of the comedian’s move to a new studio. In 2014, Diaz defended Paltrow and ex Chris Martin‘s use of the phrase “conscious uncoupling” to describe their split.

“I think it’s actually a very elevated and conscious and realized statement,” Diaz told Extra at the time. “I think that when people like Chris and Gwyneth, who really worked hard to be friends and keep the things that are really good and work in their relationship, which is being friends and being parents, which they are amazing at … people go their separate ways in other aspects of their life, and I think it’s really brave of them to phrase it that way.”

Why Cameron Diaz Disappeared From Hollywood

Where has Cameron Diaz been?

The actress last appeared in the 2014 musical Annie, co-starring Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis. While she’s one of the most popular (and highest-paid) movie stars in Hollywood, Cameron said two decades of non-stop travel from film set to film set was too much. “I just went, ‘I can’t really say who I am to myself.’ Which is a hard thing to face up to,” she said at the Goop Wellness Summit Saturday. “I felt the need to make myself whole.”

So far, the actress has not announced any new projects for 2017.

Cameron appeared on a panel alongside Tory Burch, Miranda Kerr and Nicole Richie; Gwyneth Paltrow served as the moderator. Towards the end of the discussion (held in Culver City, Calif.), the Goop founder asked her famous friends about their relationships. “Cameron, you got married later,” she said. “What was it that kept you from getting married until you were 40?”

“Forty-one,” Cameron politely corrected her friend, flashing her megawatt smile. “I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband [Good Charlotte’s guitarist and singer Benji Madden], you know? I had boyfriends before. And there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends. And I have a husband who is just my partner in life and in everything. Talk about two very different people! We are so different from one another, but we share the same values—we’re totally two peas in a pod. We are both just weird enough for each other.”

“We women are objectified so much,” she said. “Somehow my husband has just been able to kind of show me what it’s like not to have that be a part of a relationship, and being an equal.”

Nicole is Cameron’s sister in-law, as she married Joel Madden seven years ago. The fashion designer called the Maddens “a very close family,” telling the panelists, “They rely on each other. When we got together it was like, you’re just in the family. It’s a large support system.”

Cameron added that her husband of two years supports her in ways she never imagined possible. “I never experienced that before. I’d never been loved in that way,” said the Other Woman actress, whose famous exes include Jared Leto, Alex Rodriguez and Justin Timberlake, to name a few. “I look at him every day and he inspires me—he works so hard. I feel so lucky.”
