Cameron on Getting Married Someday: “I’ve Never Said Never to Anything”

Cameron Diaz may not be looking for a husband or marriage, but that doesn’t mean she’s entirely ruling out the idea of walking down the aisle someday.

E! News’ Alicia Quarles caught up with the actress for the junket interview promoting her upcoming film Annie, and the blond beauty began discussing couples in general, telling us, “You can just tell when people are good partners to one another and are kind to one another and compassionate and generous and thoughtful.”

She added, “I think that’s a really nice thing and you can see that. Because you can also see what people don’t think about their partners [laughs] and aren’t kind, aren’t generous. I think it’s obvious. Those things are obvious.”

But does Cameron want to get married someday? Or is the idea of marriage not important?

“I just think that life is not—I don’t…I stay right present, in the moment. I’m not the person, for whatever reason, I’m never projecting myself too far forward. I don’t live in the past. I try to stay really present, right in the moment where I’m at.”

But with that said, there’s always the possibility of something happening in the future. “And so, I’ve never said never to anything. Believe me, I’ll try anything once or twice or maybe even three times.”

Amid speculation that she might be wearing an engagement ring from boyfriend Benji Madden, Diaz covered Marie Claire’s November 2014 issue and explained that marriage isn’t the be-all, end-all. “I’m not looking for a husband or marriage or not not looking for that stuff,” she said. “I’m living, not thinking what I should or shouldn’t be doing with my life.”

As for motherhood, it’ll be on her own terms. “We live in a society where everyone has kids, so they want other people to have kids. There is this culture that says celebrities are supposed to be just like us, so people think, ‘I have children, why doesn’t she?’ But I’m not going to do something because it’s expected.”

“If a family happens, then it happens,” the Other Woman star continues. “If children come to me, then I would do that, but I’m not someone who feels like she has to do something because it’s expected.”
